VILA – Tutorial – Adobe Premiere Pro

Below you find video tutorials and written instructions to teach yourself video editing in Adobe Premiere Pro. This software works on Windows and Mac Os and it has a 30 day trial period.

1. First steps

  1. Open Premiere Pro, then click ‘New Project’ and name the project.
  2. Click ‘File’, then ‘New’, then ‘Sequence’ and name the sequence.
  3. Click media browser, then find the folder with your files, then right click the folder or the files and click ‘Import’.
  4. Go to the project window. Select your clip and drag & drop it into the timeline. Now you can start editing.
  5. (Or double click the clip in the project window to open it in the Source window. There you can select parts of the clip to add them to the timeline (use the in, out, and insert buttons))

2. Cut and trim

Cut

  1. Choose the ‘Razor’ tool from the tool menu.
  2. Click the part of the clip that you want to cut
  3. (if you made a mistake press ‘cmd/ctrl + z’ to undo it.)

Trim

  1. Hover the cursor over the beginning or end of a clip
  2. Click and drag the clip to make it shorter.
  3. If you click and drag the clip longer, the frames you trimmed reappear again.

3. Motion & Transform

  1. Select a clip in the timeline
  2. Click ‘Effect Controls’
  3. Click ‘Motion’ and then edit position, scale, rotation etc.
  4. You can also double click on the preview window and move the blue dots in the position you want them.

4. Audio

Volume
Select audio in the timeline, then click ‘Effect Controls’, click ‘Motion’ and change the volume.

Detach
Right click on the clip. Click ‘Unlink’. You can now move and edit the audio separately from the video.

Import
Click the ‘Media Browser’ and find your audio file. Then right click the file and click ‘Import’. You can drag and drop audio files from the project window into the timeline from there.

5. Export

Share video

  1. Click ‘File’, then ‘Export’, then ‘Media’.
  2. A new window opens.
  3. Select the format you want to export in
  4. Click ‘Output name’ to choose the output location
  5. Click ‘Export’.

  1. Click on the photo icon in the preview window
  2. A new window opens
  3. Name the file and click ‘OK’

OR

  1. Click ’File’, then ‘Export’, then ‘Media’.
  2. A new window opens.
  3. Select an image format.
  4. Select the range of the image sequence you want to export on the left side
  5. Click ‘Export’

6. Subtitles

  1. Click ’File’, then ‘New’, then ‘Title’.
  2. Name the title and click ‘OK’.
  3. A new window opens.
  4. Enter and edit your subtitle.
  5. Close the window to save the changes.
  6. Now drag & drop the title from the project window into the timeline window on top of the clip
  7. Repeat

7. Synchronisation

  1. Select two clips
  2. Right click and click ‘Create Multi Camera Source Sequence’
  3. A new window opens
  4. Name the new clip
  5. Click ‘Audio’ to synchronize
  6. Click ‘OK’
  7. Right click the new clip in your project window
  8. Click ‘Open in timeline’
  9. Start editing your synchronized clip

8. Multiple Angles

9. Censor

  1. Select clip
  2. Go to ‘Effects’, search ‘Mosaik’
  3. Drag and drop ‘Mosaik’ onto clip
  4. Go to effect controls and click on ‘Mosaik’
  5. Select the elipse shape and drag it onto the censor area
  6. Adjust the size
  7. Click the icon in front of ‘Track mask’ and press the play button
  8. Now the program tracks the area you want censored
